The Super Confidence of Rosie Rae
Rosie Rae is a curious little girl with a big imagination—but sometimes she isn’t so sure of herself. That all changes when she discovers a mysterious glowing rock, a magical treasure that gives her the power of super confidence!
With her new courage, Rosie learns to believe in herself and inspires her friends to discover their own inner strengths too.
Brimming with heart, adventure, and an uplifting message, The Super Confidence of Rosie Rae shows children everywhere that the greatest superpower of all is already inside them.
How did you first come up with the idea for this work?
The Super Confidence of Rosie Rae was inspired by a simple belief: every child deserves to know that confidence comes from within. Through Rosie’s journey, children discover that confidence isn’t about being fearless, it’s about believing in yourself and taking one brave step at a time. My hope is that every child finishes the story knowing their greatest superpower has been inside them all along.
What was your research process like?
My research combined child development principles, social-emotional learning (SEL), and real-life observations of how children build confidence. I explored age-appropriate emotional development, resilience, growth mindset, and positive self-talk, while drawing inspiration from conversations with parents, educators, and my own experiences. My goal was to create a story that is both engaging and a practical tool for helping children believe in themselves.
How long did you work on this before it was published?
4 years. I spent 1 of those years developing the story and refining the message the remainder of that time was spent collaborating on illustrations to ensure every page helped children build confidence in an engaging and meaningful way. From idea to publish date.
Does this work relate to your role at FIT? If so, how?
Yes. My education as a Fashion Design student at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) taught me the importance of storytelling through creativity, thoughtful design, and understanding the audience. Those skills shaped the way I approached The Super Confidence of Rosie Rae, from developing the characters and visual concepts to creating a meaningful experience that connects with children and families.
What was your biggest challenge? What was most rewarding?
Biggest challenge:
The biggest challenge was simplifying such an important message into a story that young children could easily understand while still making it meaningful for parents, educators, and caregivers. Every word and illustration had to serve a purpose.
Most rewarding:
The most rewarding part has been knowing that The Super Confidence of Rosie Rae has the potential to help children believe in themselves. If even one child feels a little braver or more confident after reading Rosie Rae’s story, then I’ve accomplished exactly what I set out to do.
